Red Monkey Kid

August 5th, 2009

4 yr old chestnut TB gelding, 16 hh.

Monkey’s motto is “ask and you shall receive”.  He loves to learn and do new things and is always willing to try.  Monkey has an amazing jump, he could easily do the Hunters, Jumpers, become a talented Event horse or fox-hunt with the best.  It’s just so easy for him.  I would say that his most outstanding quality is his confidence in his own ability to handle whatever situation he finds himself in.  He just knows that he can deal with what comes.  He loves to hack out and is very comfortable running into the hounds out roading (walking).  Monkey ran twice on the flat and raced twice over steeplechase fences but he was very slow.  What impressed us the most was his ability to handle the commotion and just do his job despite his inexperience and he continues to make us proud.  He has been off the track since April and just gets better every day.

Rachel Alexandra wins again

June 28th, 2009

NEW YORK (AP) – Rachel Alexandra may need to run against the boys just to find some competition.

The Preakness winner romped to a 19 1/4-length victory in the $300,000 Mother Goose on Saturday, splitting Malibu Prayer and Flashing on the far turn at Belmont Park and pulling away down the long front stretch to win in a stakes-record 1:46.33.

Saddle hunting.

May 24th, 2009

Well, I am on the hunt for a saddle, once again.  Trying to find a sluotion to the small horse, long legs, short stirrup question hasn’t been easy.  I have tried everything in our local Tack Store that even might have been suitable and still come up empty.  One seemed nice at first but didn’t have that sweet spot when I did more with it.  And don’t even ask about looking online.  Yes, there are tons of options but if you haven’t had a chance to sit in it you have no idea how it feels under you, nevermind the quality.  Recently my eye has been caught by one I just might gamble on.  I’ll keep you updated on how it works out.
