<p><span style="color: #800000">Historic Springdale Race </span><span style="color: #800000">Course in Camden, SC hosts a day of the finest steeplechase racing in America. </span><span style="color: #800000">Thoroughbred horses race along the emerald turf </span><span style="color: #800000">at 35 mph and jump hurdles nearly five feet </span><span style="color: #800000">high. Patrons enjoy the six afternoon races, </span><span style="color: #800000">which includes The Carolina First Carolina Cup. </span><span style="color: #800000">Maiden, novice and seasoned horses vie for glory </span><span style="color: #800000">and over $161,000 in purse money in the six </span><span style="color: #800000">afternoon races, highlighted by the $75,000 Carolina First Carolina Cup. </span><span style="color: #800000">The inaugural race of the first Carolina Cup </span><span style="color: #800000">was run at the historic Springdale Race Course </span><span style="color: #800000">on March 22, 1930. Spectators came from up and </span><span style="color: #800000">down the eastern seaboard from as far away as </span><span style="color: #800000">New York and Canada to Florida for what </span><span style="color: #800000">newspapers would call “the first important </span><span style="color: #800000">jumping race south of Virginia”. The Carolina </span><span style="color: #800000">Cup has become the sporting-social event in </span><span style="color: #800000">South Carolina which has achieved phenomenal </span><span style="color: #800000">success since its inaugural 1930 running. </span><span style="color: #800000">The Carolina Cup has survived innumerable </span><br />
<span style="color: #800000">fashion cycles, countless tailgate menus, and a </span><span style="color: #800000">myriad of ingenuous cocktail concoctions to r</span><span style="color: #800000">emain one of South Carolina&#8217;s largest sporting </span><span style="color: #800000">social events. The Carolina Cup is a fixture in </span><span style="color: #800000">the history of South Carolina and for the past </span><span style="color: #800000">76 years, &#8216;the Cup&#8221; has become a Palmetto State </span><span style="color: #800000">tradition with generations of family and friends </span><span style="color: #800000">gathering every year for the official &#8220;rites of spring&#8221;. </span><span style="color: #800000">Newspaper accounts of the inaugural Carolina </span><br />
